Cape Fear Public Utility Authority is currently in the process of retrofitting approximately 15,000 meters with a technology that will make them compatible with our new meter reading software. For affected customers, the retrofit will produce a one-time change to the structure of their CFPUA bill.
If your meter has been retrofitted, your meter number will now have an “H” on the end (see image below). Due to the current design of our billing software, the date when the meter retrofit occurred is registered as a “Read Date”, even though your meter was not actually read that day for billing purposes. As a result, your bill representing the service period when the change occurred will show two “Read Dates”.
In the example below, the service period is from 4/26/18 – 6/23/18. For the water usage and the irrigation usage, there appears to be two different read dates: one on 6/4/2018 and the other on 6/23/2018. In this example, the retrofit occurred on June 4, 2018. However, the meters were not read for billing purposes until June 23, 2018. Because the meter was not actually read on June 4, 2018, the bill does not show consumption to that point. Thus, all consumption is shown in the columns next to the actual read date of June 23, 2018.
The retrofit to the meter and change to the meter number gives the appearance on the bill that all of the water was consumed in a short period of time. Please note, the usage in the example below that appears on the same line as the read date of 6/23/18 is usage for the entire service period and not usage that has occurred since the retrofit.
