[ARCHIVED] CUSTOMER SCAM ALERT: FAKE PHONE “SURVEY” CONDUCTED BY “CITY OF WILMINGTON WATER DEPARTMENT”

CUSTOMER SCAM ALERT: FAKE PHONE “SURVEY” CONDUCTED BY “CITY OF WILMINGTON WATER DEPARTMENT”

CFPUA has been informed that customers are being contacted by someone representing the “City of Wilmington Water Department”, asking for their help in completing a survey that asked about personal information.

A few days after taking part in the “survey”, the customer is informed they has been selected to receive a $1,000 prize based on their participation in the survey. They are then informed the prize will be personally delivered to the prize to the home.

Needless to say, this is a scam. There is no “City of Wilmington Water Department”, CFPUA is not conducting a customer survey at this time, and CFPUA would never offer a cash prize at ANY time.

Local law enforcement has been notified and this matter has been reported the matter to the Attorney General’s Office.

If any customer receives a similar phone call, we ask that they please contact Mike McGill, CFPUA’s Chief Communications Officer, 332-6704.
