[ARCHIVED] Water Meter Work to Begin in Wrightsville Beach in June

A long-term project to upgrade water meters at homes and businesses in the Town of Wrightsville Beach is scheduled to begin later this month.

CFPUA and Wrightsville Beach are preparing to consolidate the Town’s water and sewer services into CFPUA’s system. The consolidation is scheduled to be in effect on September 30, 2025.

As part of this process, CFPUA is upgrading water meters at 2,700 customers’ properties with remote meter reading technology. This work is being done in anticipation of the consolidation and until September 30, Wrightsville Beach will continue to be customers’ water and sewer provider.

These meters are not being removed or replaced, and customers’ water service will not be interrupted during the upgrade process. This remote meter-reading technology is in use in all other parts of CFPUA’s service area and allows staff to read meters without having to enter customers’ private property.

This project is expected to take several months and be complete at the date of consolidation.

In a separate project, some older water meters that cannot be retrofitted will be replaced. Approximately 120 properties’ meters will be replaced starting in early July.

Customers whose meters are scheduled to be replaced will receive direct notification at their home or business. Water service may be briefly interrupted during the replacement process.

CFPUA is contracting with Vanguard Utility Service and A.C. Schultes of Carolina to complete these projects. Customers may see Vanguard and A.C. Schultes staff working on or near their properties’ water meter. All staff will carry identification and will work during normal working hours, Mondays through Fridays.
