CFPUA crews are installing a temporary wastewater line and pumping system to facilitate repairs to a failed sewer line in the Bayshore community.
The temporary line will divert flow around the failed section of sewer main near the intersection of Bayshore Drive and Shore Point Drive. This temporary setup is expected to be fully operational by the afternoon of Tuesday, August 6, and remain in service until Tropical Storm Debby has passed.
Permanent repairs to the line will commence once the weather and working conditions have improved.
CFPUA personnel will be on-site regularly throughout the storm to monitor the temporary system and assess site conditions. Additionally, the temporary system is equipped with remote sensors to ensure effective monitoring and operation.
Crews have calculated that 2,327 gallons of untreated wastewater escaped during the SSO, reaching a stormwater tributary of Pages Creek.
Drivers in the area of the repair should continue to remain alert and watch for crews working.

CFPUA crews responded to a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) caused by a failed sewer main in the Bayshore community overnight Sunday, August 4.
At 7:45 p.m. Sunday, CFPUA received a call to its emergency call center reporting an SSO near the intersection of Bayshore Drive and Shore Point Drive.
CFPUA crews were able to isolate the failed section using valves, but repairs are ongoing. Initial calculations estimate that 2,100 gallons of untreated wastewater escaped, reaching a stormwater tributary of Pages Creek. A final estimate for the SSO will be provided after repairs are complete.
Drivers in the area of the repair should remain alert and watch for crews working.
The incident has been reported to the North Carolina Division of Water Quality. CFPUA Environmental Management staff are conducting surface water quality sampling in the area.
