At its regular meeting Wednesday, March 9, the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Board swore in Wilmington City Councilman Luke Waddell as its newest member.
Councilman Waddell was elected to his first term on City Council in November 2021 and is the CEO of Cadence Realty. Council appointed him to fill the CFPUA Board seat vacated last year by retiring
Wilmington City Councilman Kevin O’Grady.
“I’m excited to be joining the Board at this major moment for CFPUA, as they get ready to bring our community’s new state-of-the-art drinking water filtration enhancements online this year,” Waddell said. “I look forward to being a part of all the work CFPUA does to maintain critical water and sewer services for the residents of our City and County.”
Councilman Waddell’s term on the CFPUA Board runs until July 1, 2022.
Wilmington City Councilman Charlie Rivenbark and New Hanover County Commissioners Jonathan Barfield Jr. and Rob Zapple have also been re-appointed to terms on the CFPUA Board.
CFPUA’s 11-member Board includes two members each from the Wilmington City Council and New Hanover County Board of Commissioners. Each of those bodies also appoints an additional three “at-large” members from the community, with a final Board member appointed jointly by the City and County.
