[ARCHIVED] Update: 315 gallons of wastewater entered Pages Creek from Wednesday's Bayshore-area main break

A sewer main break Wednesday, July 8, in the 300 block of Bayshore Drive in New Hanover County resulted in an estimated 315 gallons of wastewater entering Pages Creek.

At 3:29 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) at a pump station was reported to CFPUA. The spill stopped about 3:50 p.m. after CFPUA crews shut off the pump station and began pump-and-haul operations to divert wastewater from the break.

Work continued through Wednesday evening and into early Thursday, when a bypass was installed to route the flow of wastewater away from the break.

The spill appears to have resulted from a force main break immediately in front of a pump station. The cause of the break remains undetermined.

The station will remain on bypass while repairs continue.

CFPUA’s Environmental Services Division is conducting water quality sampling at the site. The SSO has been reported to the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality.
