[ARCHIVED] CFPUA facilities, staff ready for 2020 hurricane season

Hurricane Dorian

Monday, June 1, marks the start of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season. With the U.S. National Weather Service forecasting an above-normal hurricane season, and as our region continues to see the spread of COVID-19, CFPUA has been finalizing key facility improvements and projects in preparation for the season.

In 2019, CFPUA purchased a fuel truck to help ensure a consistent fuel supply for generators during a storm. The truck was modified a few months ago with a new bottom fill connection point to allow simpler and safer filling operations at the fuel terminal. As we did in 2019, CFPUA has placed temporary additional fuel tanks at our water treatment plants for the duration of hurricane season.

Key spare parts that may be needed urgently after a hurricane have been inventoried and procured as needed. CFPUA has also completed projects that could affect capacity at water and wastewater treatment plants.

Just as we did during Hurricanes Florence in 2018 and Dorian in 2019, CFPUA’s staff stands ready to provide reliable, quality water and wastewater services through the storm season.
