Cape Fear Public Utility Authority continues monitor demand on our drinking-water systems. We are not yet at the point where mandatory water restrictions are necessary. Like other public water systems in the area, however, we are experiencing record demand for water from our customers.
CFPUA staff are keeping a close eye on raw and finished water capacity and meteorological and hydrological conditions and will take steps as necessary to ensure water is available for all customers and for essential services such as fire protection.
A big part of the demand we are experiencing results from irrigation. And addressing that is the biggest measure residents can take to prevent implementation of mandatory restrictions.
Set your sprinklers to go off between midnight and 6 a.m. Limit total lawn irrigation to no more than one inch per week.
These simple steps can go a long way toward helping conserve water during this stretch of hot, dry weather.
