WILMINGTON, NC – Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) crews responded to a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) report that occurred on Thursday, November 22, 2018, at 5:25 pm between the 600 and 700 blocks of Wellington Avenue. The spill was caused by grease and debris accumulating in the line from a missing manhole ring and cover, crews cleared the blockage stopping the spill at 6:20 pm.
CFPUA estimates that 2035 gallons reached a near by storm drain tributary to Greenfield Lake. This area has been cleaned and the spill was reported to the N.C. Division of Water Quality. CFPUA laboratory will be collecting samples in the area Friday November 23 to determine environmental impacts.
