[ARCHIVED] CFPUA Drinking Water Unaffected by Coal Ash Spill

flushing_newsalert

CFPUA continues to monitor the dam breach at Sutton Lake and wants to assure customers it will not affect water quality in areas served by the Sweeney Water Treatment Plant. The Sweeney Plant takes water from the Cape Fear River at an intake located above Lock and Dam #1 in Bladen County, treats it at the Plant located near downtown Wilmington, and distributes it throughout New Hanover County.

The intake’s location above Lock and Dam #1 protects the Plant’s raw water supply from downstream impacts, such as saltwater influences and events like the breach at Sutton Lake. To learn more about drinking water quality in CFPUA service areas, please visit our website or email questions to communications@cfpua.org.
