UPDATE: The two free water stations have been inspected and they remain available for use.
Cape Fear Public Utility Authority staff has been working diligently over the past few days to ensure water service interruptions will be as minimal as possible during this extreme weather event. All of our major facilities have generators in place to safeguard against the loss of power. Should the Plants temporarily lose power, we are filling water tanks to ensure an extra supply of treated water for our three water systems. Our water lines are well protected, but in the event of water main break, we have prepositioned trucks, staff, and tools that will allow us to access damaged areas as soon as the weather allows.
This storm, however, does have the potential to cause widespread damage to New Hanover County. Some in our community are on private wells and may lose access to water if the power goes out. While we do not expect CFPUA customers to lose access to water, it is a possibility. If this occurs, CFPUA is keeping our two water stations open for all of the community to use in the event it becomes necessary.
These water stations are located in our two groundwater systems.
- One station is located in Ogden Park at 615 Ogden Park Drive. The station is can be found near the tennis courts parking lot.
- The second station is located in Veteran’s Park, near the entrance to the soccer fields.
