SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS: CFPUA LAUNCHES CUSTOMER SURVEY ON GENX AND THE SWEENEY WATER TREATMENT PLANT

CFPUA launched a customer survey on GenX and the potential upgrade to the Sweeney Water Treatment Plant. The survey is meant to provide customers and members of the community an opportunity to give us their feedback on CFPUA actions regarding GenX and other per-fluorinated compounds. The survey will be available through the month of June, and all answers will remain anonymous.

CFPUA to Test for Per-Fluorinated Compounds at Chemours

After a contested hearing, a federal judge has ordered Chemours to allow CFPUA to test for compounds at the Fayetteville Works site.

In June 2017, CFPUA’s legal counsel sent a letter to Chemours requesting information regarding the identity of all chemical compounds for all GenX chemicals, the testing methods associated with them, the products manufactured with the assistance of GenX chemicals, and any other data relating to GenX chemicals in the groundwater or surface water. CFPUA has not received this information.

Sampling at the site in Fayetteville is part of our legal strategy against Chemours and Dupont and will help us understand whether we can reduce the levels of contaminants in our treated water.

New GenX Results from the Sweeney Water Treatment Plant

We have received results for May 15 and May 21 from testing at the Sweeney Water Treatment Plant. Levels of GenX continue to remain below the 140 parts per trillion (ppt) preliminary health goal set by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
