[ARCHIVED] CFPUA to Conduct Routine Flushing Maintenance During the Summer Months

flushing_newsalert

Beginning, Tuesday, May 29, 2018, and continuing throughout the summer, CFPUA water quality crews will conduct flushing. Flushing is a routine maintenance operation performed by CFPUA to improve water quality. During this activity, water is forced through pipes at high velocity and systematically flushed out of the fire hydrants, removing accumulated sediment.

CFPUA crews will conduct flushing activities between 10 pm and 7 am during the workweek to minimize customer impact. During flushing, it is possible that customers may experience periods of low pressure and/or water discoloration. CFPUA recommends that customers reduce water use while crews are flushing in their area. Customers who experience discoloration are advised to run the cold water for at least one to three minutes to allow the lines to clear.

You can check the CFPUA website (http://www.cfpua.org/728/Flushing) to see when crews may be in your area this summer. Maps of the current flushing areas are posted each Monday. The first areas to be flushed are:

  • The area west of S. 17th Street to River Road; between Shipyard and Independence Boulevards to include: Hanover Heights, Belmont, Sunnyvale Road, Bellingham Park, Oakridge, Port Watch and other areas within this vicinity.
  • Pine Valley area west of Chalmers Drive including Pine Valley Estates, Sun Valley, Forks at Barclay, Merestone, Breezewood Condominiums, Fairview and other areas within this vicinity.

Completion of each planned area is dependent on system conditions and may change with little or no notice. Areas not completed are typically scheduled to be flushed the following week.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority appreciates our customers' patience.
