Roots can damage water and sewer lines. They can work their way into tiny cracks, continue to grow, and eventually tear or break the pipe. Roots can become so large that it blocks flow. Therefore, CFPUA routinely conducts root control.
It is a process to kill fine roots that have grown in through pipe joints over the years. After treating a small portion of the root, crews will be able to flush roots out of the system using high pressure jetting in about six months.
Over the next several days, CFPUA will conduct root control through the end of next week. Crews will be in the Wooster area, along Shirley Road, Belvedere Drive, Kenwood Avenue, and Chestnut Street. Please use caution when driving in work zones.
