CFPUA Wins State Water Quality Award for Eighth Straight Year

WILMINGTON, NC, May 4, 2016: Earlier today, CFPUA was honored with the N.C. Area Wide Optimization Award for the eighth year in a row by the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality. This year, CFPUA was one of 56 water systems are being honored for surpassing federal and state drinking water standards. The awards are part of the N.C. Area Wide Optimization Program, which is an effort to enhance the performance of existing surface water treatment facilities. Awards are given each year to water systems that demonstrate outstanding turbidity removal, a key test of drinking water quality. While all drinking water systems have to meet strict state and federal drinking water standards, these systems met performance goals that are significantly more stringent.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) was formed by the City of Wilmington and New Hanover County to combine their water and sewer operations. It began operations on July 1, 2008. Today, the Authority serves more than 67,000 water customer accounts and more than 65,000 wastewater customer accounts.
