WILMINGTON, NC, May 4, 2016: Earlier today, CFPUA was honored with the N.C. Area Wide Optimization Award for the eighth year in a row by the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality. This year, CFPUA was one of 56 water systems are being honored for surpassing federal and state drinking water standards. The press release from NCDEQ can be found here: http://deq.nc.gov/press-release/utilities-honored-exceeding-drinking-water-standards.

The awards are part of the N.C. Area Wide Optimization Program, which is an effort to enhance the performance of existing surface water treatment facilities. Awards are given each year to water systems that demonstrate outstanding turbidity removal, a key test of drinking water quality. While all drinking water systems have to meet strict state and federal drinking water standards, these systems met performance goals that are significantly more stringent.

“We are extremely proud to receive this honor from the state for the eighth year running; it speaks to the hard work and dedication of CFPUA’s staff,” said Richardson. “We intentionally set high goals for ourselves in order to assure we are delivering the best possible drinking water for the people of Wilmington and New Hanover County.”
