Wilmington, NC (January 14, 2015): Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) is pleased to announce that it has received – for the fifth straight year – an honor from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). This year’s award is for Distinguished Budget Presentation and is given to a governing body and its staff to “reflect their commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.”

In order to receive the award, the governing body must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as: 1) a policy document; 2) a financial plan; 3) an operations guide; and 4) a communications device. Budgets must be rated “proficient” in ALL four categories to receive the award.

“We pride ourselves on our transparency. This highlights our commitment to producing information that clearly shows our customers how we manage the assets entrusted to us,” said Jim Flechtner, CFPUA’s Executive Director. “Our strong bond ratings and financial position are testaments to the fine work being done by our Finance team.”

“To receive a financial award for a fifth straight year is a significant achievement,” said Mike Brown, chair of CFPUA’s Finance Committee. “Our staff has been repeatedly honored for its meticulous preparation of our financial documents. As a result of their work, the Board is given clear and complete guidance that helps us make decisions that benefit our customers.”
