Wilmington, NC (June 28, 2014): Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) crews responded to, and stopped, a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) that occurred Friday at approximately 6:20 p.m. in the vicinity of the Country Haven Pump station, located at 7718 Market Street in Ogden. A break in an 8-inch force main was the cause for the overflow, which was stopped at approximately 7:00 p.m. when staff diverted flow to a new force main in the area. Repairs have been made to the existing force main.

Despite crews quickly arriving on scene, approximately 2,000 gallons of wastewater reached surface waters that serve as a tributary to nearby Pages Creek. CFPUA Environmental Management staff members have conducted water quality testing at various locations at and around the site and initial results are expected within the next 24 hours. This incident is under further investigation by CFPUA and has been reported to the North Carolina Division of Water Quality.
