WILMINGTON, NC (June 19, 2014): The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) is pleased to announce the release of its Water Quality Report for the calendar year 2013. The report, which is mandated by an amendment to the Safe Drinking Water Act, provides important details about the quality of the drinking water we provide to the communities we serve. Inside, readers will find that, once again, drinking water met or exceeded the standards for safety and quality as set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA).
“Reliable water service provides the backbone for a community’s way of life,” said Jim Flechtner, CFPUA Executive Director. “CFPUA plays an important role in the daily lives of our customers and we hope the results found in
this report demonstrate to them how seriously we take this responsibility.”
This year’s report can be found through our homepage at www.cfpua.org under Quick Links or by going directly to www.cfpua.org/2013WQreport.
In addition to the test results, CFPUA’s Water Quality Report for 2013 details its water sources and treatment processes. CFPUA’s staff of highly trained, state-certified water treatment operators and teams of skilled maintenance technicians work around the clock to insure safe, high quality, reliable drinking water sources.
CFPUA processes and distributes treated drinking water within New Hanover County through four different water systems. The largest system distributes water within the City of Wilmington city limits, parts of the Ogden area, parts of Monkey Junction and the King’s Grant. Water is provided to the largest system by the Sweeney Water Treatment Plant, whose source water is surface water that is drawn from the Cape Fear River.
The next largest system distributes water to portions of the northern part of New Hanover County including Murrayville, Wrightsboro, parts of Castle Hayne, Porters Neck and parts of the Ogden Area. Two smaller systems distribute drinking water in the Flemington area and in the Monterey Heights, Woodlake, Laurel Ridge/S. Myrtle Grove, Lord’s Creek and Veteran’s Park areas.
Paper copies of the report are also available and are located at various locations around town and will be mailed upon request:
