CFPUA crews stopped a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) overnight in the 5500 block of Whisper Creek Lane.
At 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, CFPUA received a call about a possible sewer spill on Whisper Creek Lane. Crews located a sewer main in the area that was leaking and worked quickly to isolate the break and stop the spill.
The sewer main was fully repaired by 1 a.m. Thursday, May 29.
During the repair, an estimated 762 gallons of untreated wastewater escaped to Hewlett’s Creek. Crews used a vacuum truck to capture an additional 4,400 gallons of wastewater and prevent it from flowing to the creek.
CFPUA Environmental Management staff are conducting water sampling in the area, and the N.C. Division of Water Resources has been notified.
