The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Board will hold its monthly meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the Wilmington Convention Center, 515 Nutt St.
Among the items to be considered by the Board on Wednesday are:
- Proposed revisions to CFPUA’s policies for delinquent residential customer accounts. Under the proposal, starting in May residential customers whose accounts are delinquent by $450 more for at least 60 days will automatically be enrolled in 12-month, interest-free payment plans. If the policy change is approved, starting September 1, 2021, customers in default on payment plans or who become delinquent on or after September 1, 2021, would become eligible for water service disconnections, a last-resort collections measure intended to nudge customers to contact CFPUA to discuss a plan for bringing their accounts up to date.
CFPUA has suspended service disconnections for delinquent residential customers since February 2020. Several regional utilities already have resumed delinquency-related service disconnections. A recent study showed that water systems serving 50 percent of North Carolina residents already have resumed or plan to resume disconnections.
- A preview of a draft recommendation for CFPUA’s Fiscal Year 2022 operating budget, which includes no rate increase. This draft will be reviewed and revised by staff and the Board over the next few months, until a public hearing on and consideration of the final recommended FY22 operating budget by the Board at its June 9 meeting.
A limited number of seats will be available for the public to access live video and audio feeds of the proceedings. Attendees are required to wear face masks in accordance with Wilmington Convention Center safety protocols.
Parking is available in the Wilmington Convention Center parking deck on Nutt Street. The public is asked to enter the Convention Center either from the parking deck or the Convention Center Drive entrance.
The Board’s Communications Committee will meet immediately following the regular Board meeting.
