SewerOverflowImage

CFPUA crews this evening are repairing a sewer main break at Pump Station 79 in the 300 block of Bayshore Drive in New Hanover County.

At 3:29 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) at the pump station was reported to CFPUA. A crew arrived onsite at 3:50 p.m., shut off the station, and began pump-and-haul operations to recover as much wastewater as possible.

CFPUA crews are in the process of repairing the break, the cause of which remains undetermined.

The amount of wastewater released as a result of the SSO has not been determined. A portion of the wastewater reached nearby Pages Creek.

CFPUA’s Environmental Services Division is conducting water quality sampling at the site.
