buildingsm

The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Board will hold its monthly meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, at the Wilmington Convention Center, 515 Nutt St.

In addition to regular business, the meeting will include public hearings on CFPUA’s proposed Fiscal Year 2021 operating budget and system development charges (SDCs).

To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Board members, CFPUA staff, and attendees will be divided among rooms with occupancy limited to no more than 10 people per room. A limited number of seats will be available in public rooms, which will offer live video and audio feeds of the proceedings.

Parking is available in the Wilmington Convention Center parking deck on Nutt Street. The public is asked to enter the Convention Center either from the parking deck or the Convention Center Drive entrance.

The two public hearings will cover:

  • The proposed FY21 budget, which does not include increases to customers’ water or sewer rates. The $89.98 million proposed FY21 budget is a 5.2 percent over the previous year’s, accommodating the resources to keep up with customer growth and repair and replace aging infrastructure in the community’s water and sewer system. For more details, see:
  • Proposed changes to CFPUA’s system development charges. System development charges assess new customers their proportionate share of the cost of infrastructure improvements benefitting the new customer that were paid for by past or existing customers. In other words, the SDC is the fee new customers pay to “buy‐in” to the water and sewer system.
