[ARCHIVED] CFPUA to begin annual flushing program May 25

Beginning Monday, May 25, 2020, CFPUA will be conducting our annual flushing program.

Areas served by the Sweeney Water Treatment Plant, which provides drinking water to 80 percent of CFPUA’s customers, will be flushed during the program. The flushing process will continue through the summer months.

Flushing is a routine maintenance operation conducted by thousands of water utilities every year. During the process, water is forced through pipes at high velocity and systematically flushed out of the fire hydrants to remove accumulated sediment.

To minimize customer impact, work is conducted between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. Monday through Friday. Flushing will not take place Friday, Saturday, or Sunday nights.

Because of the nature of the process, it is possible that customers may experience periods of low pressure and/or water discoloration while flushing is being conducted in their area. Customers who do experience discoloration are advised to run the cold water for at least one to three minutes to allow the lines to clear.

Water will remain safe to drink.

Once flushing begins, maps of areas scheduled for flushing will be posted at www.cfpua.org/728/Flushing. The page will be updated each week with maps of the impacted areas.
