CFPUA is a nationally recognized utility for our leadership and innovation in the fields of water and wastewater treatment.

Recent awards include:

WATER ENVIRONMENT FEDERATION

In 2024, CFPUA was named a Utility of the Future Today by the Water Environment Federation (WEF). 

This program recognizes water sector utilities that are transforming their operations through innovation, technology, and culture change. The program serves as a model for utilities of all sizes to achieve more efficient operations, enhanced productivity, and long-term sustainability.

THE WATER RESEARCH FOUNDATION

In 2024, CFPUA received the Water Research Foundation’s (WRF) Subscriber Impact Award, recognizing CFPUA’s contributions to research on effectively treating drinking water for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

WRF’s Subscriber Impact Award honors member utilities that have made notable improvements to their water treatment, delivery, and management processes through the application of WRF research. 

Projects for which CFPUA was honored include a first-of-its-kind pilot study begun in 2017 at the Sweeney Water Treatment Plant to evaluate treatment technologies to remove PFAS from drinking water. The results of this study were used in the design of new deep-bed Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) filters at the Sweeney Plant.

National Association of Clean Water Agencies

In 2023, CFPUA received the National Association of Clean Water Agencies' (NACWA) Gold Recognition in its Excellence in Management Program. 

A Gold Recognition honors NACWA members that have implemented at least seven of the Ten Attributes of Effectively Managed Water Sector Utilities laid out in the Effective Utility Management primer (EUM): Product Quality, Financial Viability, Customer Satisfaction, Stakeholder Understanding and Support, Operational Optimization, Employee Leadership and Development, Enterprise Resiliency, Infrastructure Strategy and Performance, Community Sustainability, and Water Resource Sustainability. 

ASSOCIATION OF METROPOLITAN WATER AGENCIES

In 2022, CFPUA received the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies’ (AMWA) Gold Award for Exceptional Utility Performance.

The Gold Award honors AMWA members that exhibit high levels of performance in product quality, customer satisfaction, employee and leadership development, operational optimization, financial viability, community sustainability, enterprise resiliency, infrastructure strategy and performance, stakeholder understanding and support, and water resource sustainability.
