Cape Fear Public Utility Authority is encouraged to see continued progress in DEQ’s efforts to ensure the Cape Fear River is properly protected as a water source. CFPUA and its attorneys have long called for regulatory action against Chemours. Today’s announcement by NCDEQ that it has ordered the company to stop the release of all fluorinated compounds into the Cape Fear River is a positive step.
It is unfortunate that it takes legal action for Chemours to fully disclose what, and how much, it discharges to the Cape Fear River. It is vital that water providers and their customers have access to information about the quality of their source waters. CFPUA is pleased that that NCDEQ has taken this affirmative action.
