Water Quality Report
Each year, the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will prepare a Drinking Water Quality Report for its customers as mandated by Federal law. This report provides important details about the quality of the drinking water we provide to our community and can be found in the Water Quality and other Annual Reports archive.
Laboratory Testing
The laboratory is responsible for all sampling associated with compliance monitoring for drinking water. More than 130 samples are collected each month for bacterial analysis by the staff.

Tests are conducted for total coliform bacteria and heterotrophic bacteria plate count.

Other Parameters
Sampling for other state mandated parameters, including total trihalomethanes, pH, chlorine, and fluoride, is conducted by highly qualified field personnel.

Testing Associated With a Boil Water Advisory
The laboratory analyzes samples in association with boil water advisories related to water line breaks, repairs, or maintenance activities. Recognizing that the safety of the customer’s drinking water is top priority, samples are delivered to the laboratory for analysis once all lines are ready to be placed back in service. These samples are analyzed for coliform bacteria content to assure lines have been completely cleaned prior to returning to service. Results are forwarded within 28 hours of sample receipt.

Customer Service
The laboratory also responds to customer questions and concerns about their drinking water. The laboratory will contact customers to answer questions and collect samples for analysis, if needed, to assure the highest quality drinking water possible.
